North Hempstead’s Town Attorney’s Office seeks transactional attorney to perform various functions including rendering legal opinions to the Town Supervisor, Town Board, Town departments, Town committees and commissions. Duties will involve practice in the area of land use, opinion writing, legal research, drafting ordinances and resolutions, drafting and reviewing of various types of contracts, performing legal work connected with the acquisition of property, obtaining of easements; representing the Town in its dealings with various commercial firms and organizations; responding to requests under the Freedom of Information Act, public procurement, local taxation and zoning enforcement and as required assist the Town Attorney and the Chief Deputy Town Attorney in the performance of their duties.
Professional legal experience representing local government clients and/or land use experience is preferred. Knowledge of the Town is a plus.

Candidate will handle defense of personal injury and property damage claims, beginning with the processing of “Notice of Claims” up to and including trials and appeals. The ideal candidate will also handle litigation of other matters including Article 78 proceedings. Litigation experience with insurance defense preferred. Knowledge of the Town is a plus.
