Research/ Work Experiences
Master’s Thesis (Jan 2011 – May 2012)
Deformation of OFHC Copper during Cutting
• Conducted high strain rate experiments on OFHC Copper using Ultra High Speed Photography and Digital Image Correlation, at different cutting conditions to study the nature of deformation in the material during machining
• The strain rate distribution in the primary shear zone was analyzed with the effect of grain size and properties of the material
Wichita State University (March 2008 – May 2012)
Graduate Research Assistant; Advanced Manufacturing Lab, Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
• Studied the behavior of materials like hot rolled AISI 4340 steel, heat treated AISI 4340 steel and Ti-6Al-4V while machined with different tool geometries and various cutting conditions
• Worked on National Science Foundation funded project in determination of cutting tool temperatures while machining Titanium
• Modeled machining processes using CATIA V5, MSc Patran and Hypermesh
• Conducted FEA of AISI 4340 machining using LS-DYNA to validate experimental results
• Post processed FEA results on LS-Prepost, ABAQUS viewer and Techplot
• Provided accurate flow stress estimates to FEA to fit appropriate constants for the Johnson & Cook material model, to accurately predict stresses and temperatures while machining AISI 4340 hot rolled steel
• Conducted tension tests on different materials and demonstrated data processing methods to compare the mechanical properties of various materials
Experimental Characterization of Glass Fiber Composites (August 2006 – May 2007)
Under-graduate Project, Department of Mechanical Production and Industrial Engineering
• Manufactured Glass fiber composite materials at various weight to volume ratios and fiber orientations and tested for mechanical properties
• Artificial Neural Network model was developed and trained to determine the mechanical properties of glass fiber composite materials for all orientations
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (July 2006 – May 2007)
Student Intern; Department of Steel metal shops and Mills; Visakhapatnam, India
• Observed production activities in various departments and designed spreadsheets and tools to collect, present and distribute data
• Performed root cause analysis, and assisted in developing corrective action plans by using Lean Manufacturing Tools likes SPC charts, FMEA, 5S, Pareto Analysis etc
• Summarized time studies and work sampling studies to establish and maintain requirements for direct and indirect labor jobs. Performed job-level task analysis
Hindustan Shipyard Limited (May 2006 – June 2006)
Industrial Training; Hull shop, Pre-fabrication and Erection Departments; Visakhapatnam, India
• Performed Time studies and set labor standards for better utilization of workers
• Evaluated and suggested measures for continuous process improvement and efficiency for workers and facilities.
• Implemented Line balancing techniques and allocated uniform workloads to workers and facilities. Performed manpower planning and forecasting for better budget allocations.
• Assessed and improved working environment for better safety and good working conditions

Academic Projects
Lean manufacturing
• Implemented 5s principles at strain gauge mounting and testing lab at National Institute of Aviation and Research, Wichita. Process improvement was done by value stream mapping, lean metrics, 5S, and Kaizen
Analysis of Advanced Manufacturing Processes
• Finite Element Analysis of AISI 4340 orthogonal machining process using MSc Patran and LS_DYNA to analyze residual stress patterns beneath the machined surface. Plastic flow around the cuttin...
