OBJECTIVE

Seeking a position as a Senior Research & Development or Senior Applications Development Engineer in process and product development of polymeric materials. This position should utilize hands-on experiences in processing equipment and design of experiment (DOE) to develop new polymeric blends, improve existing products, scale-up from lab to production, and a successful market launch.

SUMMARY

Over two decades of results-driven experiences in research and development of polymeric blends and their processes in Fortune 100 Chemical Companies and Fortune 200 consumer products companies. Responsible for lab equipment purchase, set-up, start-up and daily operations. Developed new products and processes that moved products from concept to manufacturing operation. Developed, commercialized, and technical service to polyolefin based TPEs and TPOs. Developed applications for chain extenders that incorporate reactive extrusion experiences in twin-screw extruder. Experienced in making masterbatches of chain extenders, fillers, and color concentrates in engineering plastics and biopolymers. Experienced in properties analysis of polymeric blends according to ASTM. Written standard operating procedures (SOP) for lab equipment and hands-on training for sales and technical personnel on reactive additives. Experienced in twin-screw design to scale-up of products from the lab to production line. Trained Six Sigma.


EXPERIENCE

BASF Corporation: (former JOHNSON POLYMER), Tarrytown, NY. 2002 -2011
Senior Applications Development Engineer: Design, set-up, implement, and manage the plastics processing laboratory for the company. Responsible for equipment purchase, supervise installation, and daily lab routine. Produced the first and series of masterbatches for reactive additives. Developed blends and processes that incorporated various reactive additives produced by the company. Wrote the standard operating procedures (SOP) for the lab equipment and the technical data sheets for all reactive additives produced by the company. Technical Service Engineer to customers worldwide. Introduced and developed training for the Sales representative and Technical personnel in reactive plastic additives.

Accomplishments: One US patent, two pending patent applications, and one patentable invention disclosure.

CLARIANT CORP. (Masterbatches Division) Holden, MA. 2000 – 2001
Research Manager: Managed and improved development of products and processes for color concentrates and masterbatches at the Research and Development Laboratory for the North America Business Unit.

Accomplishments: Patentable Masterbatches that are now company proprietary.

KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP. Neenah, WI. 1998 – 2000
Research Scientist: Managed the pilot plant where research and development, process optimization, scale-up of reactively extruded blends of biodegradable, compostable, and other polymeric materials were made. Improved processes of biodegradable materials for fibers in nonwoven applications for personal care products.

Accomplishment: Two patentable invention disclosures that are company proprietary.

MONTELL USA, INC. Elkton, MD. 1992 – 1998.
Research Engineer: Worked on process optimization, scale-up, research and development of TPEs, TPOs, minerals and fiberglass filled PP based blends and property analysis.

Accomplishments: One patent and a patentable invention disclosure.

MONSANTO COMPANY, Springfield, MA 1989 – 1992.
Process Engineer: Worked on product development, reactive extrusion, process improvements, applications, and property evaluation of alloys, polyblends, and high temperature polymers.

UNIVERSITY OF LOWELL (UMASS), Lowell, MA. 1985 – 1988.

Research Assistant: Research Assistant to the Department of Plastics Engineering. Worked on Nylon 6 with series of coupling agents to produce blends with various polymeric materials. Processing and property evaluation of polymeric materials from various companies to the Department of Plastics Engineering.
Instructor: Taught operations and associated safety mechanisms for injection molding machine and extruder at the OSHA Seminar organized by the Plastics Engineering Department.
