WORK EXPERIENCE

2009 - 2011 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Blacksburg, Virginia
Graduate Research Assistant
Worked with Dr. William J. Wright to investigate the feasibility of utilizing laser welded sandwich steel panels as a light weight bridge deck alternative. The study involved a plethora of finite element modeling on both localized test specimens and global deck panel configurations. A comprehensive fatigue testing program was conducted to evaluate the life cycle performance of Laser Beam Welds and Hybrid-Laser Arc Welds.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
Teaching assistant for two undergraduate steel design courses during the fall 2009 and spring 2010 terms. Duties included grading homework and design projects, holding weekly office hours, and providing exam review sessions.

The Bulova Corporate Center 75-20 Astoria Blvd. East Elmhurst Queens, NY Biositmulation Remediation Project
Primary project engineer onsite, overseeing the installation of a biostimulation remediation system at the Bulova Corporate Center in East Elmhurst, NY. Responsibilities included writing specifications for the trenching and backfilling activities performed onsite, general construction oversight, conducting a preliminary topographical survey, compiling air monitoring data via MiniRAE Photo-ionization detectors (PID) and MIE personal Data Real-time Aerosol Monitor instrumentation, performing split spoon soil sampling, maintaining a database of well construction, conducting compaction testing according to the ASTM D 1557 standard (modified proctor test), measuring in situ soil density via Troxler’s nuclear density gauge, and performing a variety of groundwater, air, and soil sampling events.
Bulk Fuel Farm and Satellite Fuel Farm Remediation System Expansion at John F. Kennedy International Airport
Responsible for all construction submittals to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey that were required per the project’s contract specification manual. Submittals require information ranging from manufacturer specification sheets, various two and three dimensional CADD drafting, and envelope structural calculations. Designed an anchoring system remedy that met ASCE 7-05, IBC (2006), and AISC coding. In addition to the contract’s construction submittals, I was also accountable for writing the monthly operation and maintenance reports for the three remediation plants onsite. These reports summarized plant performance through quantitative and qualitative data provided by plant operators, as well as to report monthly sampling results
Miscellaneous Project Experiences:
• Collected groundwater and soil samples via a Geoprobe drilling machine at the Bulova Watch Factory located in Woodside Queens, NY and the New York State Waste Management Building in Hillburn, NY.
• Visited the new Metro-North subway station at Yankee Stadium/161st St. Bronx, NY accompanied by the project’s lead structural engineer in order to observe the ongoing construction during the design/build phase of the contract.
• Project engineer on Shaw’s PDM placement project at Freshkill’s Landfill Staten Island, NY. Responsibilities included taking composite samples of dredged material to measure for moisture content and measuring the in situ soil density of compacted soil in a grid of 100’X100’ with a nuclear density gauge.
• Aided with the design of a sub-slab depressurization system for the New Settlement Community Campus at 1501 Jerome Avenue Bronx, NY funded by the New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA). Responsibilities included generating design plans and details, contract specifications, and maintaining close communication with the contracted architecture firm, NYCSCA, and Shaw personnel.
• Conducted a waste audit as part of the ongoing sustainability audit taking place at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens located in Brooklyn, NY. 50 lb composite samples were collected to represent the facilities daily waste. The samples were weighed and sorted according to the EPA in order to characterize the garden’s waste production.
