• Analysis of Energy Systems: study of various forms of energy sources and consumption. As well as the study of the various life cycles using first principles and thermo-economic considerations.
• Applied Atomics: application to atomic, molecular and nuclear systems; particle and photon emissions; photon/particle interactions; quantum statistics.
• Thermodynamics and fluid flow: classes identical to that of the mechanical engineering degree with an emphasis however on energy production and transport as observed in nuclear power plants.
Senior Project
Project spanned two semesters and entailed the design of a shipping cask for the nuclear waste of a Generation IV Molten Salt Reactor; DOT regulations and safety considerations required the use of a breadth of knowledge in areas such as thermodynamics, mechanics, material science and radiation shielding.
