Resume

Summary
• An investigative imaging professional with attention for detail and the ability to engage diverse engineering personnel toward formulating and implementing system level solutions.

Career Highlights

Cross-Functional Systems Team Leadership
• Solicited and secured support from and interfaced with mechanical, electrical and software engineering product development subteams to troubleshoot and resolve image quality issues in high volume document scanners to assure customer satisfaction. (Xerox and HP)

Product Development / Business Analysis
• Elicited customer requirements from stakeholders and developed them into system specs for high volume document scanner to best serve future customer needs. (Xerox)

Product Testing
• Evaluated image quality through objective metrics of digital images and subjective metrics of hard copy prints. (Xerox and HP).
• Designed and validated scanner product manufacturing final line tester, which was also capable of providing image quality data useful in an engineering environment. (Xerox)
• Designed and implemented interface in MATLAB, replacing an existing inflexible and non-user friendly process, to facilitate user input to identify corners of a general color patch target grid to extract RGB scanned data. With spectral calibration data, it produced a 3x3 RGB to XYZ conversion matrix based on a Moore-Penrose Pseudoinverse function. (HP)
• Wrote comprehensive user guide to support use of the tool.
• Redesigned existing labor-intensive multi-platform image module image quality characterization process to streamline it in support of an image module manufacturing line. (Xerox)
• Coded in Perl to extract ASCII output from existing engineering software and to implement metrics directly.
• Created test pattern piecemeal from existing targets and affixed to a rotating drum fixture.
• Designed single test pattern and oversaw vendor who manufactured them to support new production fixture for use elsewhere in the company.
• Trained users to capture images from the engineering drum fixture to enable higher volume testing of image modules.

Image Quality Metric Design
• Designed and implemented Local Tone Uniformity Metric to differentiate between the effects of single vs. dual illuminants in a given scanner design. (HP)
• Plotted all instances of tone differences due to small shadows cast by perturbations on the surface of a scanned piece of paper that exceed a given threshold over a wide range of thresholds. The area under the curve is highly indicative of the image’s local small area uniformity.

Process Improvement
• Earned Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification through Air Academy Associates.

Work History

Experis ManpowerGroup (formerly known as Manpower Professional) contracting with Hewlett Packard, Fort Collins, CO
Imaging Engineer, Imaging Asset Team October 2010 – April 2012

• Investigated image quality problems and the effect of HW/SW interactions along with characterizing the image quality of document scanners to assure customer satisfaction.
• Communicated results, conclusions, and recommendations to facilitate business decisions.
• Investigated the difference between an existing scanner MTF algorithm that extracts peaks from the histogram of a high frequency bar target scan and my own more accurate algorithm that detects peaks of tone directly from the actual data trace across the region of interest.
• Measured relative color difference between sides of simultaneous duplex scanner.
• Created and implemented UPC barcode reader given reprographic scanned input image.
• Created and implemented robust test pattern fiducial X mark locator algorithm.
• Wrote code to optimize Gaussian blurring plus unsharp masking to suppress background noise and enhance glyph c...
