Responsibilities include preparing test plans of metal components including failure analysis, mechanical testing, metallographic and microstructural evaluation, grain flow macroetch, chemical analysis, corrosion analysis photography, optical microscopic examination, and fractographic examination by electron microscope among other tests; preparing formal price quotations for clients, preparing formal reports with analysis of test results; reading and interpretation of drawings, blueprints, and specifications; and calibrating equipment. Equipment and testing experience includes tensile testing, Brinell hardness testing, Rockwell hardness testing (all scales), Vickers and Knoop microindentation hardness testing, Leeb hardness testing, Charpy impact testing, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), metallographic cross section preparation equipment, normal and electrolytic etching, Feritscope, grain size measurement, depth of decarburization, phase volume measurement, plating/coating thickness, cast iron graphite & carbide ratings, formability testing (plastic strain ratio, strain hardening exponent, and earing tendency), non-destructive microstructure replication and fracture surface replication, weld defect evaluations, optical emission spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy, and ion chromatography.
