Responsible for oversight of SLACs implementation of safety systems to ensure that they perform as required by the approved safety authorization basis and other applicable requirements. Perform and document results of assessments, investigations, walkthroughs and surveillances to confirm performance of safety systems in meeting established ES&H requirements and performance expectations set by DOE. Performs evaluations of troubleshooting activities, investigations, and root-cause analyses, tracking and trending of accidents, injuries and near misses, and selection and implementation of corrective actions. Reviews proposed safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards to determine their consistency with accepted engineering principles and practices and recommend technical changes. Reviews oversight of construction safety for projects and activities at SLAC. Serves as the principal point-of-contact, as the subject matter expert for a number of safety and health areas other than industrial and construction safety, such as radiation safety, fire protection, seismic safety, industrial hygiene, lasers and biosafety. Served as Project Director for the disassembly and dismantling of the BaBar Detector, a High Energy Physics Experiment that studied the violation of charge and parity (CP) symmetry in the decays of B mesons. This was an $11.8+ million project that has taken over three years to complete.
