EXPERIENCE

FIELD SAFETY DIRECTOR - Thalle Construction Company, Inc., Hillsborough, NC (3/04 – 3/12)

Duties: Develop, implement and manage safety plans for all projects across the company – maintain verbal contact with all project superintendants; facilitate all special safety concerns by providing resources and solutions; maintain working knowledge of applicable regulations, standards and codes relating to construction safety; perform routine site visits, as well as, unannounced site visits and audits to ensure safety plans are being followed; document any deviations, issue citations, if applicable, coordinate disciplinary measures with direct supervisor and provide solutions for noted violations; develop and perform daily on-site safety briefings, as necessary; investigate site accidents, determine causes and prepare follow-up reports with recommended remedial actions; provide input/documentation for Workers’ Compensation claims, as necessary; develop and provide safety training and education; manage and track safety training program for new and existing employees.
Projects:
• Hickory Log Creek Dam Phase I & II, Foundation and Construction of new concrete gravity dam that consists of 235,000 cubic yards of roller compacted concrete and over 12,000 cubic yards of cast in place concrete. Appurtenant items included a control building, large diameter welded steel pipe, sluice gates and crest gates, electrical instrumentation and a 252’ long pedestrian bridge. Also included in the project was 400 acres of clearing, excavation, backfill, roads, erosion control, and site restoration;
• West Water Main Charlotte, NC, Construction of approximately 19,100 LF of 48" water main, four tunnels, 10 air relief facilities, 8 blow-off facilities, 5 butterfly valves sized 48", 2 flow monitoring stations, 1 major stream crossing, utility replacement and/or relocation, erosion control, asphalt replacement, sodding and seeding.
• North Carolina 50 Pump Station and Force Main Contract No. 2 Force Main (Raleigh, North Carolina); Installation of approximately 55,000 feet of 30" ductile iron force main, 1,068 feet of 36" ductile interceptor, and 2,700 feet of 16" ductile iron reuse pipeline, concrete junction box, clearing and grubbing, traffic control, surface restoration, valve assemblies, air/vacuum valve assemblies, bored and jacked highway and railroad crossings, and all associated appurtenances.
• Butcher Creek Sanitary Landfill Cell 1 Construction Boydton, VA; Erosion and sedimentation controls, unclassified excavation, placement of structural fill, sedimentation pond construction, culvert installation, composite liner system and leachate collection and conveyance system construction, leachate storage tank and fill station, scalehouse/office, scales, equipment storage building, septic, utilities, retaining wall, paved and gravel access roads, revegetation of disturbed areas at final grade.
• Phase 1 Partial Closure and Landfill Gas Extraction System, Tuscorora Long-Term Regional Landfill (North Carolina); Drilling and installing landfill gas (LFG) extraction wells, trenching, backfilling, and welding of temporary and permanent HDPE pipe; installation of condensate drip legs; connection of well heads and piping to existing LFG extraction system on closed IRL Landfill; partial closure of the Phase 1 Landfill by placement of intermediate cover materials, installation of LLDPE geomembrane cap; installation of a geocomposite diversion layer; installation of geosynthetic clay liner (GCL); construction of a protective cover; and implementation of erosion and sediment control features;
• Horry County Solid Waste Authority Subtitle D Landfill Phase 1 Closure Conway, SC; Closure of approximately 16.4-acre portion of a Subtitle D landfill including a 42-inch thick drainage and erosion layer.
• North Wake Subtitle D Landfill, Phase I Closure (Raleigh, North Carolina); Construction of the 21-acre Subtitle D Landfill Closure final cover system (including 40 mil LLDPE liner, geocomposite drainage layer, 18-inch protective soil layer, and 6-inch topsoil layer), stripping of existing unsuitable soils and vegetation, sub grade preparation, installation of HDPE storm drains and drainage swales.
