• Produced multi-step asymmetric synthesis analogs of the neuroexcitant and Alzheimer’s disease research compound kainic acid using boronic ester chemistry.
• Performed multi-step asymmetric synthesis of the drugstore beetle, Stegobium paniceum, and furniture beetle, Anobium punctatum, pheromone stegobinone using boronic ester chemistry for use in insect traps in the United States to prevent crop destruction.
• Completed multi-step asymmetric syntheses of the four insect pheromone isomers of 4-methyl-3-heptanol ((3S,4S)-4-methyl-3-heptanol (aggregation pheromone of the European elm bark beetle Scolytus multistriatus), (3S,4R)-4-methyl-3-heptanol (SE Asian ant trail pheromone), (3R,4S)-4-methyl-3-heptanol, and (3R,4R)-4-methyl-3-heptanol) using boronic ester chemistry for use in insect traps in Sweden.
• Worked on the production of a new boronic ester reagent that would allow for the synthesis of asymmetric primary, secondary and tertiary aldehydes that could be used in Suzuki couplings and Liebeskind-Srogl couplings.
• Taught organic chemistry laboratories (included giving pre-lab lectures, safety instruction, writing and grading quizzes, grading of laboratory reports, modifying preparation of the local anesthetic, lidocaine, for use as a laboratory final exam, and scheduling of laboratory experiments).
