History and Highlights

Senior Engineering Manager
RTI International Metals, Advanced Forming, Inc.
2013 to 2015
A producer of titanium metals and fabricated metal products for aerospace, defense,
energy and medical industries
Recruited to lead manufacturing process engineering, production-tooling design, production line technical management, plant maintenance and information technology. Managed $7M in capital improvement initiatives and a $1.8M annual cost budget. Directed a team of 22 management, professional and support personnel.
• Managed major plant improvement projects. Upgraded or replaced outdated production equipment, lab systems, and facility systems. On a budget of $7M, attained a financial payback of less the 18 months. Projects included an automated robotic titanium sheet processing cell that reduced production labor costs by 50%, hot forming press control systems and mechanical enhancements that allowed certification to new aerospace standards, initiation of CNC machining center operations reducing production costs by 35%, and a new campus-wide compressed air system that increased energy efficiency by 45%.
• Solved a crucial production problem. An inherited critical process (titanium grinding residue recovery system) frequently failed resulting in two weeks of downtime and a loss of $12M in revenue each time. Conducted failure analyses and developed short and long term action plans and fixes for filter pumps and coolant circulation systems. Since installation, production has operated without interruption.
• Other achievements. Developed timely and accurate bids resulting in over $5M/year in new business.. Implemented a cloud-based plant maintenance planning, scheduling and records system that improved machine uptime by 5% and enabled predictive plant maintenance actions. Upgraded servers and LAN structure, improving network reliability and capacity.

Senior Director of Operations
Stereotaxis Corp
2010 to 2013
A developer and manufacturer of robotic medical surgical and information systems
Recruited to develop and implement manufacturing, installation, and customer service functions to cost effectively produce complex robotic cardiac surgical systems and surgical room vision and control systems. Led a team of 30 employees in this 250-employee, $50M organization. Managed a $17M budget.
• Led a critical development program. A major medical device manufacturer requested that Stereotaxis utilize key proprietary technologies in a new co-development program that would enable remote clinical oversight and technical support for heart ablation procedures. Selected to lead this co-development program. Established the bi-company project plan and managed technical, cost, and schedule attributes. Coordinated production and installation of the systems at the medical sites and at the device company’s new support facility. Made the development, production and launch of the product a complete success.
• Minimized costs. Components used in the production of the company’s robotic heart ablation surgical system (Niobe) were extremely costly and lead times were long. In the absence of an ERP system, developed computer-based models to generate production plans that integrated the company’s sales-shipments forecasts with production material lead times and assembly times. Minimized inventories and WIP while shipping as quickly as possible. In FY 2011 actual sales-shipments were nearly 50% below forecasts but the system minimized inventory impacts. The year-end raw materials, WIP and finished goods inventory only increased 12% despite the large miss on sales.
• Played a key role in aligning costs to sales and maximizing profitability. Working closely with his Supply Chain staff, negotiated new, long-term supply agreements. Used LEAN methods to assess the efficiency of production processes and to eliminate waste. Overall, trimmed Niobe material costs by 2% and logged an 8% reduction in labor costs. Trimmed the materials costs of another product (Odyssey procedure room display and control system) by 4%.
• Improved customer service and protected ongoing revenue streams. Modified the existing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to make it easier to identify and prioritize calls for support. Routed all service problems to the Stereotaxis Call Center to facilitate timely and proper response. Instituted daily problem resolution meeting to isolate trends and determine root causes. Drove significant reductions in recurring customer problems. Cut worldwide downtime to no more than 24 hours and logged a 10% year over year reduction in service call expenses.

VP Engineering & Operations Support
MetoKote Corp.
2007 to 2009
A global custom coating services market leader
Directed Corporate Equipment Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Environmental/Health/Safety, and Project Management Departments that supported 38 plants in seven countries. Managed a team of 48 employees for this $250M, 2,000-employee organization.
• Supported expansion. Directed the on-time development, fabrication, installation, and production start-up of seven ...
