Research & Development Engineer
Patch Panels
Designed custom boards that adapt standard Cisco VHDCI wiring to both Cisco RJ-45 and DB-25 wiring with a switchable output from DCE to DTE. Thousands are currently in use inside Verizon central offices.
Adapters
Designed hardware to allow RS-232 systems to communicate with both EIA-530 and V.35 based systems.
Created an RJ-45 to RJ-45 adapter to allow signal communication between two optically-isolated network elements powered solely by data leads; the TX lead provided power during downtime using a custom circuit to store and then provide power during periods of activity.
Modified the isolation adapter to work across multiple devices including TRDC, AI, MRV and Cisco devices.
RFID
Designed and built an RFID detection system capable of tag detection in an extremely constrained range (10 mm), well below the established threshold for distinct tag recognition.
Designed and built mechanical fixture to accommodate multiple pick and place cartridges, simulating a production environment.
Successfully demonstrated the capabilities of the system while also satisfying especially demanding mechanical envelope constraints.
Solved inter-tag cross talk through a sophisticated software algorithm and proprietary mechanical techniques.
Custom Design
Created a headless serial to i2c based device to remotely monitor voltage, current and temperature of battery banks within Verizon central offices.
Designed, programmed and tested a novel Cypress bas...
