EXPERIENCE

Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems Inc. (Irvine, CA)
Associate Mechanical Engineer
• Demonstrated the ability to analyze, design, model (primarily Solidworks), build, assemble, test and document various mechanical systems while working independently and collaboratively with a diverse group of (RF, Electrical, Systems and GNC) engineers in a self-driven, fast-paced and minimal supervision environment
• Supported Tyvak’s flagship project, CubeSat Proximity Operations Demonstration (CPOD), funded by NASA’s Small Spacecraft Technology Program. Individual projects and duties include:
. Center of Gravity Measurement tool: researched, designed and built an apparatus to measure and adjust the spacecraft’s CG within 0.5 mm
. Air table: built a hovercraft to simulate rendezvous, proximity operations and docking
. Rapid prototype: printed prototypes for our designs and maintained company’s 3D printer
. CubeSat Cradle: designed cradle for manufacturability; modeled and procured parts from QuickParts; for use during assembly, testing and transportation of CubeSats
. Torque Coil Winding Fixture: researched, designed and built an instrument that semi-autonomously winds torque coils while dampening perturbations
. UHF Antennas: documented and tested the deployment of NiTi wires in a thermal chamber
. TVAC Cradle: designed and assembled a structure for CubeSats in thermal vacuum testing
. Intrepid: maintained and modeled aluminum structures for Tyvak’s commercial Intrepid line
. Communicated with vendors with quick turnaround time and procured parts from McMaster, Omega, Protolabs, Rapid Machining, QuickParts, etc.
. Documented designs, builds and tests with procedures, reports and BOMs
• Led the initial mechanical design of CICERO, a 6U CubeSat that collects atmospheric data through radio occultation, which includes the design of deploy mechanisms, avionics and payload packaging, cable routing, CAD modeling and preliminary analysis of structural components with ANSYS
